The Bel Air-Beverly Crest Neighborhood Council applauds the dedication and skill of the firefighters working on the front lines of the Getty Fire. We are grateful to have such an amazing team keeping us safe.

There is a fire ("Getty Fire") that began in the Sepulveda Pass at 1:30 am that has spread west and south to the hillside areas of Brentwood. Helicopters are dropping water. Planes cannot get into the air until daylight. Local schools will be closed today (see list below).
 
Homes have been lost on Tigertail Road, Skye, and Chicory Lane. Sepulveda Blvd. is closed through the Pass.  LA City has issued evacuation orders: Mulholland to 405 to Sunset to Temescal/Topanga -- north of Sunset, south of Mulholland, west of 405 to Temescal/Topanga.  Embers can be carried live up to a mile away which creates great risk for the entire Santa Monica Mountains area. DOT is on duty at Sunset to move the traffic out of the canyons and out of the area. Do not attempt to travel on Sunset Blvd. It is needed for evacuation traffic.

Stephen Lukasik, a physicist who oversaw crucial work on national security and computer networking as director of the Defense Department’s research division in the late 1960s and early ’70s, died on Thursday at his home in Falls Church, Va. He was 88. The cause was respiratory failure, his wife, Virginia, said.

Dr. Lukasik (pronounced loo-KAY-sik) spent eight years at the department’s Advanced Research Projects Agency, known as ARPA, a period when great strides were made in detecting and controlling weapons of mass destruction — particularly nuclear devices — as well as in computer networking and artificial intelligence.

Thank you to everyone who participated in outreach activities in Summer 2019! Metro has received approximately 4,400 comments since June 2019. Your participation in this outreach reflects the high level of interest in the project. 

Certified results are in and can be found below. Congratulations to the election winners. They will be seated at our upcoming meeting on June 19. BABCNC is happy to report a 63% increase in voter turnout over the 2016 election.

LADWP is working hard to make important electric infrastructure improvements in the greater Bel Air area to markedly improve power reliability. The community’s patience and understanding are greatly appreciated during this critical infrastructure upgrade.

Phase I construction will begin on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 and will be completed by summer 2020.
