Recently, the Board of Water and Power Commissioners discussed the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power's (DWP) wildfire mitigation plan, which integrates many of the recommendations from Controller Galperin's recent wildfire prevention report. Galperin's November 2019 report assessed the wildfire risks faced by the DWP and urged the utility to boost inspections of overhead power lines and transmission equipment, eliminate maintenance backlogs on old utility poles, prioritize strategic planning to manage fire risks and expand the use of technology to detect wildfire safety issues.
Ron said "My report detailed concrete ways the DWP can do more to prevent the threat of wildfires and protect Angelenos, and I am pleased that the department incorporated many of my recommendations into this plan. While it is a good start, I urge DWP leadership to keep working to improve the department’s fire prevention efforts so that our City’s power system remains as safe and reliable as possible."
